2008 Youth Explore Sports! (YES!) Expo
Date & Time: September 13th from 10am to 3pm Location: Collin Creek Mall Address: 811 North Central Expressway. Plano, Texas Description: YES! was created to provide the families and young people an introduction to the people, sports, organizations and physical activities that are available in their community. With all of the activities, demonstrations, exhibitors and prizes being given away by all of the people and organizations that provide healthy activities for the families and kids of our community… you’re guaranteed to have a great time.
Dallas Zoo Stingray Bay
Date & Time: thru September 30, 2008 Location: Dallas Zoo Address: 650 S. R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas Cost: Admission to Stingray Bay is $2.50; SpongeBob SquarePants™ ride is $5. Discounts are available for Zoo members and when tickets are purchased with Zoo admission at the front gate. Stingray food is $1 when feeding schedules permit. Description: Stingray Bay - Feel the gentle southern and cownose rays as they brush against your hand in their shallow 17,000 saltwater pool. Safe for even the youngest visitors, the stingrays’ poisonous barbs have been removed during a painless procedure similar to clipping a human fingernail. The only exhibit of its type in North Texas. New SpongeBob SquarePants™ 3-D adventure motion ride - Follow everyone’s favorite invertebrate, SpongeBob and his buddy Patrick, chase a wayward pickle through Bikini Bottom.
Eyes on Earth
Date & Time: May 23rd through September 1st Location: The Museum of Nature & Science in Fair Park Address: 3535 Grand Ave. and 1318 S. 2nd Ave. Dallas, TX Description: EYES ON EARTH is a new, highly interactive science exhibition that focuses on the EOS and examines how satellite observations are made and what we can learn about the Earth using space technology. Designed primarily for families and school groups (upper elementary through adults), visitors learn what a satellite is, discover the different types of orbits, and explore cutting-edge technology similar to that used by EOS scientists. EYES ON EARTH brings these concepts “down to earth” through a combination of fun, accessible interactive displays in a playful and “spacey” environment. The exhibit explores the basics of satellites, orbits, and satellite technology Cost: General admission is $8.75 for adults, $5.50 for children 3 to 11, and $7.75 for youth 12 to 18
GrapeFest!
Date & Time: September 11th from 10am to 10:30pm; 12th and 13th from 10am to 11:30pm; 14th from 11am to 6pm Location: Grapevine TX Description: Join wine novices and connoisseurs at the largest wine festival in the Southwest. Sample award winning Texas wines at this 21st annual event offering four full days of fun! Enjoy these events: Non-stop entertainment on four stages, Carnival and Midway, People's Choice Wine Tasting Classic, Kid Zone, GrapeStomp, Vintner's Auction, Texas Wine Tribute, Tennis Classic, Italian Car Show Cost: 11th is FREE; 12th is FREE from 10am to 5pm; from 13th at 5pm thru 14th adults are $8, seniors & kids $5, under age 6 are free.
Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse
Date & Time: Sept 19th - Oct 26th; Fridays at 7:30pm; Saturdays at 1:30pm; Sundays at 1:30pm and 4:30pm Location: Baker Theatre Address: 5938 Skillman, Dallas Description: Make way for Lilly - the feisty, irrepressible, impulsive "queen of everything". This spunky mouse-girl absolutely loves school until her teacher confiscates her purple plastic purse and its very important contents. Lilly's amazing exploits become life lessons learned with plenty of fun and laughs along the way. Cost: Tickets range $12 to $22; ages 3 and up.
Oktoberfest
Date & Time: Sept 18th 5pm to 11pm; Sept 19th 5pm to midnight; Sept 20th 11am to midnight; Sept 21st noon to 6pm Location: Addison Circle Park Address: 4970 Addison Circle Drive Description: An authentic recreation of the Munich Oktoberfest featuring more than 30 hours of continuous family-oriented entertainment. German entertainers in authentic German costumes perform traditional German folk dances, schuhplattling, folk songs, ompah music, sing-a-longs, yodels and more. A special “Oktoberfest” Lowenbrau Oktoberfest Beer is served along with several types of German sausage, sauerkraut, strudel, giant pretzels and more. There are carnival rides, midway games, children’s entertainment, petting zoo, 5K run, pony rides and more.
Cost: $5 for ages 4 and up.
The Plano Balloon Festival
Date & Time: September 19th at 4pm; 20th and 21st 7am launch - 5pm festival  Location: Oak Point Park Address: 2801 E. Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX Description: A spectacular three-day event will provide spectators an action packed weekend. Entertainment on the Field Stage, Saturday Evening Spectacular Fireworks Show, Special Kids Activities, and of course the Incredible Hot Air Balloons. The balloons will launch Friday at 6:00pm, Saturday at 7:00am and 6:00pm, and Sunday at 7:00am and 6:00pm (weather permitting). Balloons, Thrills, Food & Fun! Cost: $5.00 per person 1-time admission; $8 per person day ticket – allows 1 re-entry; $4 per person discounted admission 9:00AM - 3:00PM; $1 off for Seniors 65 and over; Kids under 36 inches - Free
