mom and girl_2.jpgParenting: Child's home education

by Haruna Kwandi Mathias

We should give thanks and praises to the lord almighty for blessing us with children. As parents we were once children and we've so many things that we owe to our parents. As children we started learning from the comfort of our homes. The real values of life we learned them from homes and as we go out to join other children from other homes we tend to accept some and reject some due to our different upbringings.

Now that we are parents we should start teaching our children things that really matters in life. We should teach the children the four important things that when properly accepted and practiced by them, the world would be theirs and they won't have enemies at their doors.

Those four important things we are required as parents to teach our children are as follows:

a. MORAL VALUES: There's no real time to start teaching the children about doing good and avoiding what is bad. The time to start teaching them about right and wrong behaviors should be done early in life. There is nothing like the child is too young to comprehend. Teach the children about honesty, handwork, obedience, dedication, decency, perseverance and civic obligations.

b. SPIRITUAL VALUES: Whatever religion we all belong to, the fact still remains that there's a creator out there. Therefore, we should start teaching the children about religious beliefs early in life. Let them know that there's a God. There's someone mightier and holier than us and who's above and watching over us. He's our creator. Let them learn the holy books. Teach them to raise their voices unto the lord for their thanks and praises.

c. ECONOMIC VALUES: Money is not the root of evil. So we should avoid teaching this principle to the children. Teach them about money and its' values, including its' limitations. Teach them how to start saving money early life. The child should be taught on how to take proper care of his or her clothing, books, toys etc so that when he or she grows up, the child would have already made them as part of his daily routines.

d. GOOD HABITS AND MANNERS: Respect for elders and constituted authorities are very important for a child to be taught while they're still very young. Respect should not be based on ones wealth. A child should not be above the school authorities simply because he or she comes from a very rich home.

Children should be taught on how to be disciplined. Cleanliness should be their watchword. Self-control and orderliness should be their daily bread. Human relationship should be their BIBLE. If we love our children then we should embrace good parenting by giving our children a good home education.
